I must admit, I am a little surprised that Max Scherzer basically ran away with the 2017 NL Cy Young Award. I’m no Clayton Kershaw fan, but I figured many writers would have voted for him based on his 18 wins and 202 strikeouts. I recall reading ESPN’s Keith Law opining near the end of the season that Zack Greinke (17-7, 3.20) deserved to finish ahead of Kershaw, which I thought was pretty stupid. I figured the voters were going to pick Kershaw because he won the ERA title again and won 18 despite missing five weeks.
But as it turns out, the race wasn’t even close. And if the Dodgers never win a Series with Kershaw around, he’ll be forever known as “13-12.”
